Комплекс памятников Гремячей горы
Гремячая гора – один из самых живописных и загадочных уголков Пскова. У её подножия течет Пскова – правый приток реки Великой, давший название городу.
В комплекс памятников Гремячей горы входит церковь Косьмы и Дамиана (XVI в.), Гремячая башня (XVI в.) с пряслом стены Окольного города, а также стоящее на берегу в так называемых Волчьих ямах здание хлебопекарни (XIV в.) и руины Офицерского корпуса (XVII в.).
Церковь Коcьмы и Дамиана (1363 г.) относилась к находившемуся здесь Космодемьянскому (Гремяцкому) мужскому монастырю. В нем провел последние годы жизни и погребен в 1665 г. один из известнейших правящих псковских архиереев архиепископ Псковский, Изборский и Нарвский Макарий. В 1764 г. монастырь упразднен, церковь обращена в приходскую.
Построенная с участием итальянских мастеров шестиярусная Гремячая (изначально Косьмодемьянская) башня получила название от некогда стоявшей рядом башни после ее разрушения. Высота каменной части – 22 м, диаметр у основания – 15 м, толщина стен нижнего яруса – 5 м. Имела подземные ходы и каменный туннель к реке.
Гремячую и стоящую на другом берегу Псковы Никольскую башни соединяли Верхние решетки – каменная стена с водобежными воротами, закрывавшимися в случае опасности подъёмными решётками на опускных канатах (в устье Псковы находились Нижние решетки).
C башней связаны легенды о спрятанном в подземелье кладе, заколдованной княжне и тени псковского князя.

Monuments on Gremyachaya Hill
Gremyachaya Hill is one of the most picturesque and mysterious corners of Pskov. The Pskova River, the right confluent of the Velikaya River, flows at its foot giving its name to the city.
The monuments on Gremyachaya Hill include the Cosmas and Damian Church (16th century), the Gremyachaya Tower (16th century) with a curtain wall of the Okolny City, the bakery building (16th century) located on the river bank in the so-called Wolf pits, and the ruins of the Officer building (17th century).
The Church of Cosmas and Damian (1363) originally belonged to the Cosmodemyansky (Gremyatsky) monastery. One of the most famous hierarchs of Pskov, the archbishop of Pskov, Izborsk and Narva Makarii spent here his last years and was buried here in 1665. In 1764 the monastery was abolished and the church was turned into a parish one.
Masters from Italy participated in building the six-tier Gremyachaya tower (originally called Cosmodemyanskaya) which got its name from another tower that was ruined nearby. The height of the stone part is 22 m, the diameter at its base is 15 m, and the thickness of the lower tier walls is 5 m. The tower had underground passages and a stone tunnel to the river.
The Gremyachaya and Nikolskaya towers (on the opposite river bank) were connected by so-called Upper gates, which is a stone wall with the waterway openings. In case of danger they were blocked by movable lattice gates. And at the mouth of the Pskova River there were Lower gates with the same function.
Many legends are associated with this tower: about the treasure hidden in the dungeon, about the enchanted princess and about the shadow of the prince of Pskov.
